Premier Apartments Bristol – Blog on Bristol
Welcome at » Bristol Pubs

With the world cup here we have decided to roll out our guide of the best Bristol pubs to watch football in.

One of our favourite places is the Grain Barge, opposite the SS Great Britain and less than 1 mile (about 20 minutes walk) from us.  The historic converted barge is moored at Mardykes Wharf and is the ideal place to relax, enjoy a pint (or two) with superb food (can’t recommend their Tapas enough especially with 3 dishes for £8 on Tuesdays) and watch the world gently float by.  Matches are shown on the big screens downstairs in the Hold Bar and the friendly crowd makes for a great atmosphere.

Staying by the river and in another converted barge, but even closer to us (500 metres/5 minutes) this time is The Apple.  The deck bar and terrace have spectacular views up and down the river.  Where better than to sample some of the worlds finest ciders and perries (and some excellent beers, wines and spirits if you’re not an apple fanatic) on a warm summer afternoon?  Best of all you can watch the world cup matches out in the sun with all matches showing on the Deck’s screens or downstairs if you prefer to watch in a “traditional pub” experience!  The Apple also serve award winning food daily (guess their favourite ingredient)!

Seven Stars Pub, Bristol

Open since 1760 the Seven Stars is one of Bristol’s oldest and oozes warmth and traditional charm.  Down by St Thomas Church and conveniently enough just 2 minutes walk from us.  Thomas Street was the heart of commercial old Bristol, still evidenced by the iron edging on the cobble stoned road and the Seven Stars has been a favourite ever since.  The mix of regulars and visitors gives a welcoming atmosphere and perfect venue for cheering England on to the win.

If you’re out exploring the surrounding countryside on Wednesday afternoon but don’t want to miss the England match you can’t do better than visit the Lock Keeper.  Half-way between Bristol and Bath on a very picturesque stretch of the River Avon the traditional pub is an ideal place for lunch (all food locally prepared) then a stroll along the river banks before watching the game.  The beer garden is a real sun trap and you can easily spend the whole afternoon here.  If you have celebrated the win you can easily leave the car in the village and catch a train from Keynsham Station back to Bristol - its only 10 minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads Station to us.

I hope you enjoyed our roundup of world cup pubs in Bristol.  We’re still out there trying the rest so check back for our more of Bristol’s best.
